About NJAMLE

Our Mission

The NJAMLE provides leadership, professional learning, and advocacy in support of its belief that all young adolescents must be academically challenged in an educational environment that meets their unique cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs.

Our Vision

All NJ students in grades 5-8 will attend schools that are academically challenging, developmentally responsive, and socially equitable, guided by educators who understand the unique needs of young adolescents.

Who We Are

The New Jersey Association for Middle-Level Education (NJAMLE) is a professional membership organization focused on meeting the needs of young adolescents. As an affiliate of the Association for Middle-Level Education (formerly the National Middle School Association), NJAMLE serves as a voice for middle-level educators, students, parents, and other stakeholders committed to excellence in middle-level education. The goals of the NJAMLE are as follows:

  1. Extend the Association’s status as the leading New Jersey organization supporting the education and well-being of young adolescents.
    • Establish and strengthen strategic collaborations with other organizations dedicated to young adolescents.
    • Establish structures and procedures to expand board expertise on broad areas of association work.
    • Provide information and guidance to policymakers and stakeholders regarding effective middle grades practices.
    • Implement public relations strategies to advance the association’s visibility.
    • Assure that board members are actively involved in representing the Association in a coordinated and action-oriented manner.
  2. Provide professional development, resources, and services that engage and enhance the effectiveness of middle grades educators.
    • Expand professional development topics, delivery methods, and resources to meet the ever-changing needs of diverse constituencies.
    • Develop and market products and services for middle-level educators, parents, and stakeholders that are grounded in This We Believe
    • Provide members with the resources, services, and guidance to meet their identified needs.
  3. Ensure the Association’s stability, growth, and continued leadership in the field of middle grades education.
    • Maintain sound accounting and investment policies to ensure the fiscal stability and growth of the organization.
    • Plan for future growth and sustainability with effective governance practices driven by by-laws, operating codes, and an adopted and fully implemented strategic plan.
    • Continue to develop and expand membership using a well-planned and executed recruitment and retention plan.
    • Expand external revenue sources through grants, sponsorships, and co-marketing venues that assist in meeting association goals.
